There is no better time to get involved in writing and journalism.

In an era of social media and fake news, where politicians seem readily willing to manipulate truth and facts to further their agendas, the value of high-quality writing and journalism cannot be overstated.

As one of the best student-run current-affairs publications in the country, we serve as a platform for university students to share their thoughts, insights and ideas, and to be a part of the global debate. Check out our website and our Facebook page to see the high-quality articles our writers have produced over the last few months.

2017 promises to be as riveting and eventful a year as 2016 was.

Across the pond, newly elected President Trump has already captivated the world’s attention with a flurry of executive orders including the hugely controversial “Muslim ban”, an order for the Keystone Pipeline to begin construction and likewise for the southern border wall.

In Europe, upcoming national elections in three major EU countries promise incredible drama: in the Netherlands, Geert Wilders and his PVV party are leading the polls whilst in France, Marine Le Pen and her National Front party’s popularity continues to grow in the wake of Francois Fillon’s implosion, only just recently the favourite to be the next President, after a corruption scandal involving his wife. In Germany, incumbent Angela Merkel looks set for a fourth term as Germany’s Chancellor and Europe’s most powerful leader, though the far-right AfD party threatens to cause an upheaval in German politics not seen in decades.

And that’s just the US and Europe. In the Middle-East, war rages on in Syria and ISIS continues to commit atrocities on a daily basis. In Asia, the conflict in Yemen threatens to usher in famine and further cripple an already failed state. In Africa, fighting between rival factions in South Sudan and DR Congo continues to wreak havoc in the two economically impoverished countries.

Events of the past year show that it is of crucial importance that people are informed and provided the requisite information needed to be effective citizens in our democratic societies.

One of the core aims of The London Globalist is to play a part in the collective project to have an informed and knowledgeable electorate. We believe that university students can and must play their part in this hugely important and consequential project, and we serve as a platform for them to do so.

We have an objective and independent editorial policy that values freedom of speech. Therefore, we publish articles submitted to us from across the political spectrum, and all successfully submitted articles are published on our website and shared across all our social media platforms. Moreover, not only do we publish articles about politics and international affairs, we also have sections dedicated to business and finance, sports, arts and culture, as well as an event coverage section on the many events that happen around London, with particular focus on events held at the LSE.
